I'm excited to announce
this year's line-up of programs! Our
board members have been busy this summer recruiting some great speakers. We're offering 17 hours of CPE between this September and next May! If we add in the 8-hour tax course offered by
the VSCPA, we’re at 25 hours of CPE
in Harrisonburg over the next 9 months!
Our lunch meetings will be
held at Vito’s Italian Kitchen on
Port Republic Road and Bella Luna
Wood-Fired Pizza downtown on Water Street.
These meetings last about 90 minutes during which time you get to eat,
interact with other area accountants and earn an hour of CPE! Everyone is
welcome whether you’re an IMA member or not.
We’re kicking off the year
on September 15th with a legislative update by Senator Mark
Obenshain and Delegate Tony Wilt, both representing the 26th
District of Virginia. In October, we’ll
be hearing from the executive directors of two area not-for-profits – Downtown
Renaissance and Mercy House. We’ll also
be collecting gently worn shoes for Well of Hope (more information to come).
In lieu of our regularly
scheduled lunch meeting in November, we’re encouraging
everyone to attend an 8-hour program sponsored by the VSCPA. David Peters will be leading a workshop
entitled “AICPA’s Annual Federal Tax Update” which is being held at the
Spotswood Country Club.
Our annual half-day
seminar is on Thursday, December 8th at the Spotswood Country Club and
features 1 hour on DOL Audit Activity and Common Compliance Findings in
Retirement Plans, 1 hour on Mergers & Acquisitions and 2 hours on Cyber
Crimes and the Coming Storm. Also, make
sure you mark your calendars for next May 18th for our annual 8-hour
session which includes Ethics.
In February, we get to
hear about the new Hotel Madison & Shenandoah Valley Conference Center and
will also be recognizing our scholarship recipients. Then, Brian Shull will be giving us an update
on local economic development at our March lunch meeting.
We’re excited to be
meeting at the MillerCoors Shenandoah Brewery in Elkton in April. After an informative tour of the plant, we’ll
have a chance to socialize and sample some of their beers. This will be a great way to celebrate the end
of busy season and the beginning of spring!
As you can see, we’ve got
a great line-up of speakers and topics for the coming year!
